I feel you on that-- sometimes there's a big trend towards like... a specific kind of AU, whether it's a 'these characters but in this very specific world that's very different from canon' or as small as 'the canon universe remains the same but this character is different in a specific way', and sometimes it's fun to spitball about but I don't care to read/write it, and other times it's just an immediate turn-off, even if there's a lot of well-done stuff. Can't vibe with everything.
