The older I get the more I find myself loving media properties as a whole and I have stopped focusing on specific characters or specific ships. I still like reading porn, but it's rare for me to have a specific ship focus now. But that comes with a downside because I find myself getting really impatient with fans who do have that focus. I have started staying away from other fans and while it is lonely sometimes I find myself enjoying the peace and quiet.

That's funny because I have had the exact opposite fandom journey. I started with liking overall franchise or media and now basically hyper focus on one or two characters. Not always a pairing, and often it'll be one person I'll pair with anyone.

Oh I feel this. I absolutely don't look down on fans who are in it for the shipping but it's just less and less what I'm interested in.
