Eh, there were plenty of Reylo shippers who claimed the basis of their harassment (unjustified, to be clear--fandom harassment is always bad) was because of the fucked-up-ness, not because they were misunderstood, which led me, like OP I presume, to think that they'd actually /embrace/ the fucked-up-ness.

Sure, but I'm talking about fanfiction here. Admitting that there's fucked-up-ness in the canon material doesn't mean that they're interested in writing or reading about these aspects. Most fic, regardless of what the canon of the pairing is, will be on the softer side. It's been like that since before I joined fandom space and likely won't ever change.
