I can never decide what side I'm on in the woobifying wars, though. Like, I loathe fics that bash Christine (or Raoul) and play down the whole murder/extortion/kidnapping/lying/psychological torture/actual torture shit that Erik did and does, but I'm also almost as weirded out by the BDSM-flavored noncon as I am by Masterful Sex God Erik (unless maybe the writer means supernatural serial killer face-stealing Freddie-Krueger-face Erik from that one movie who may check both boxes.)

And the fics that infantilize Christine so she's completely ignorant about everything to do with sex. Yeah, yeah, she's characterized as a blushing virgin but also a lot of her coworkers are also de facto sex workers. She might blush, but she's at least gonna know what penises and orgasms are.

I mean, it's fine, I assume most of the people writing and reading that stuff just think it's hot.

I've been a hardcore shipper of the pairing for almost 30 years but there's just not a lot of Christine/Erik fic that I both like and feel is even approaching in character for both of them.
