Not sure what you mean by "meta-slaves."

I know most video games have people who are insufferably pretentious about acting like their play-style constitutes Elite Knowledge when it doesn't. But as someone who has hardly played video games since, roughly, Mario Bros. getting into Genshin was quite bewildering? It's got all these different dynamics that I didn't expect and didn't know what to do with.

"I like that character, they're pretty and this is for fun," seems like a perfectly valid way to interact with the game, though. If people are posturing like you're less than them for not complicating your life with a bunch of additional stuff, I think they're being asses.

There's meta players - people who try to max out their characters damage/usefulness based on online sources.
And then there are meta-slaves, who do the same thing but also whine at other people that they're "doing it wrong" or suck because they don't want to grind for months to get that one perfect artifact.

Oh. Thanks for the clarification. I ... didn't know that was a thing. But I can see why the OP would be annoyed about it.
