Same. I write for tiny fandoms and am not super prolific, so every kudos makes me very happy!

AYRT
Sorry for the crappy wording.

When I said I have no expectations for companies to stand by sponsor allies they asked to promo their product when shit hits the fan, I meant I am never surprised that they don't. Such as Budweiser coming out and saying, "sorry we messed up" and fired the people in Marketing/PR, because so many brands have simply left the attention of people's anger to defend themselves alone. I was not surprised that Budweiser began thinking about the profits they've lost and not on the fact that Dylan Mulvaney was getting threats and that the people behind the dog piling are campaigns by hate groups.

I want these companies to do better and to be held accountable in some way when they do a shitty thing, but I am skeptical there are real ways we can see with our own eyes in real time of these happening.

Like, I knew Budweiser would react the ways they did, but it's still upsetting and scary.
But I think what I meant to say (and totally didn't because I was like "I can't be mad at Budweiser") is that my anger is more directed toward the media for not criticizing Budweiser's reaction more than at Budweiser.
I already am upset at Budweiser for thinking of the brand's profit losses and public image, but it's even more anger inducing at the media's coverage.
Sorry that I completely left that out.
Late at night and I'm rambling without thinking further on my thoughts.

I sure do u bitter lemon :3

Exactly. A lot of the comments defending the secret writer seem to assume that everyone who doesn't agree is only a reader. I write fic and I do value comments higher than kudos, but I still appreciate kudos. It tells me people liked what I have shared, and it tells potential readers that at least that number of people found it worth reading.

The uncharitable side of me thinks that if a fic genuinely gets no comments at all, then it's just not a good fic. If people like OP do get comments but think every kudos they get should also have been a comment, then lol.

Very valuable opinion noted.

Everyone replying to this secret is embarrassing

(Anonymous) 2023-07-15 09:55 am (UTC)(link)
Neither do you yet here we are.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-15 09:58 am (UTC)(link)
Well at least we know what kind of secrets to post if this com starts to look a little inactive.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-15 09:58 am (UTC)(link)
Fight that fight babeeeee.

Re: For the record, I love kudos.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-15 10:00 am (UTC)(link)
Same here.
I'm ESL and suspect that my fics are not free of typos, other errors or awkward phrasing even after editing several times, so every kudos makes me so happy! I see no difference between a kudos and someone simply saying "I liked it".

Comments make me happy ofc buuuut I also always irrationally worry that answering them looks like me inflating my comment count (when it's just a simply "Thank you" to a short comment).

(Anonymous) 2023-07-15 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
Listen. I've done school-based writing for a long time.

I'm tired of forced comments. I want to know they're fucking genuine not because they had to comment.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-15 10:53 am (UTC)(link)
That's a solid idea

(Anonymous) 2023-07-15 11:08 am (UTC)(link)
I have a question, if every single kudos was replaced by a comment of "I liked this!" would you be happier?

(Anonymous) 2023-07-15 11:43 am (UTC)(link)
I hate how "a kudo" has become a term in fandom. Giving Kudos is like giving praise.

'Rhianna Pratchett joins fans unhappy with the forthcoming TV adaptation of Watch'

BBC's The Watch 'shares no DNA with Terry Pratchett's work', says daughter
queenslayerbee: Isabelle Adjany as Lucy Harker in 1979's "Nosferatu the Vampire". She's surrounded by darkness, looking over her shoulder while she wears a white nightgown and a cross as a necklace. A hand with long nails like a claw is reaching for her neck from the darkness behind her. (Default)

but I personally wouldn't morally expect that from anyone

I would. I think it's the kind of shit any adult should say not to with a gun to their head even. WTF kind of take is this LOL.

SA *workshopping, wow, don't post tired, folks

(Anonymous) 2023-07-15 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol nice point system.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-15 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
That's nice. I don't agree, but that's because I appreciate every 'pointless' comment on my fics - so I'll happily take it and you can be picky in your own lane while the poor fandom that you're in has to deal with you.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-15 01:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Not the Op, but yeah :D
I would love to turn off kudos and if no one wants to comment then they can continue to do that.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-15 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahhh, a "centrist." I bet you also think all political parties are "just as bad".

(Anonymous) 2023-07-15 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
+100000

(Anonymous) 2023-07-15 02:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes you just want to give one prai though.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-15 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
NAYRT--maybe AYRT's talking about The Amazing Maurice? Which I haven't seen and I have no idea of Rhianna Pratchett's opinion on.

Re: Do you speak more than one language?

(Anonymous) 2023-07-15 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
My native language, English, some Spanish and Sign language I learned at school, tried to study Korean and French at different points in my like but failed miserably, and some basic conversational Japanese (probably equivalent to N4).
