1: Personally I think that the cosplay doesn't need be affected by tan; it'll look good regardless. I've seen plenty of awesome renditions with both pale and not-so-pale players. (Cosplay is about having fun, remember?)

[identity profile] melting.livejournal.com 2007-04-03 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
1. It's about the accuracy of the costume and how IC you can pull off playing the character, NOT height/weight/gender.

3. (I love ANTM...) What happened exactly? *lost*

9. I know what you mean. You can kind of see some of the phases I've gone through with my fandoms in my icons. But I always kind of forget to upload new ones.. xD;;; I've been trying to be better about uploading icons, though. So people can see what I'm into and such.

1. There's the obligatory comments of "cosplay for yourself and fot fun" that I could give here, but then I'd be a hypocrite because I tend to think the same way. But if the costume is awesome and you feel comfortable in it, then it really shouldn't matter. You seem to care a lot more about it then some people in half-assed outfits that I've seen, so you're better off regardless.

4. Fandom letdowns always suck. :\

9. Haa, same here. Except when I upload new icons it makes my laptop lag, so it's laziness + inconvenience that keeps me away from changing them.

[identity profile] lita11475.livejournal.com 2007-04-03 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
1. Yeah, I hear that- I have the opposite problem, I'm attracted to cosplaying tan characters but I'm Swedish and pale. But what can you do? If the costume is awesome, you still win.

[identity profile] klytaemnestra.livejournal.com 2007-04-03 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)

1. If you're really concerned, maybe try some pale make up. I know amphigory carries a line of really really light make up that could work. But really, I doubt anyone cares that much. You see a lot of pale people cosplaying characters that are darker skinned like Anthy who honestly looks like she's East Indian but you so rarely see anyone of that ethnicity cosplaying her. As long as you really do your best at a character, that's all that matters.

6. Caz? If so, yeah ... we do see you differently and it hurts.

8. My oldest OC RP character was pretty much me ... I guess as long as you don't turn them into a Mary Sue it's all good. Afterall, most people channel themselves into characters they RP as it is.

[identity profile] lishia20.livejournal.com 2007-04-04 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
5. ....OH GOD YES. except, for me, I put my fanom characters in the game XD

[identity profile] staymyadamant.livejournal.com 2007-04-04 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
2. I felt the same thing last year around the Fall. But after MEPS, they permanently banned me from joining for having excessive refractions or really bad eyesight. I too fear having undergo emotion and physical pressure for 9 weeks and I thought working as Physical Therapist will prevent me from ever being deployed for wars (but I learned it was completely voluntary to go. . .)

And to answer your question, don't feel bad if you wasted the recruiter's time. It's their job. If they failed to recruit you and get $1,000 for your head, then they could move on to the next candidate.

If your parent's is pressuring you to join, don't give in and seek other options. The army will be less torture on your conscious both mentally and emotionally this way. The military should always be your last option.

1) As long as you're keeping true to the character, then skin tone shouldn't make a bit of difference. Or the fact that you're a girl. (Hell, I'm a girl and I'm hoping-if I get my sewing done- to crossplay at AN. The beard's gonna be the bitch to pull off.)

6) ... uh... who are you?

7) Dr. McNinja! :D Best webcomic ever.

[identity profile] demyx.livejournal.com 2007-04-04 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
1. Augh, fuck them. If your cosplay is good, your cosplay is good. Stuff that can't be changed like gender or skin color is irrelevent. One of the best Demyx cosplayers I've seen was a black guy. Seriously, no one else I saw came close. He even had the HAIR right. I wish I got a real picture DX I had to use my cellphone.

7. ... HAHAHAHA DR. NINJA. Yeah, that's the only reason why I commented.

And this has anything to do with fandom how again?

[identity profile] rhiannon87.livejournal.com 2007-04-04 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
5. Heehee... me too. I hang around the TSR boards, and the various challenges there are my new fanfiction. It's great.

you look like a friend of mine... and...

Every time you post, i get angry.

every time you talk to me, i get angry.

i'm so sorry I can't bring myself to admit it to you, so I'll do it here

you annoy me, and you're so naive, but you're so nice, too

i'm so, so so sorry.

I hate microscopic text. Eyestrain! It's a good way to ensure I won't read your secrets.

6. You guys ought to hire someone to just kill her already. I doubt anyone would miss her. Alternately, someone could steal her computer.

Now I'm curious and I want to know what the book is. And the pairing.

[identity profile] la-vamp.livejournal.com 2007-04-04 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
1. I like cosplay for the pretty costumes anyways. Skin tone is the least of my worries. ^_^ Cheer up!

2. Um...what?

[identity profile] luzerna.livejournal.com 2007-04-04 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
5. Embarrassed? Why? Is it shameful to like that game now? 'Cause then I'm screwed. I love that game! D:

I get antsy every time I see that picture. Never knew her personally and I don't even know what she did (just some basic stuff that I've picked up through comments here) but she looks like me and it freaks me out. I also have that exact same necklace.

Please don't post it anymore. D:

#2: You're a Canadian and you got a call from a US Army recruiter? Desperation much? (On the part of the Army).

Though, in the unlikely you do decide to join the American armed forces (or for anyone else who's reading this): DO NOT JOIN THE ARMY. Seriously. My husband was Air Force for four years, got out, then decided civilian life sucked and went back into the service. The Air Force didn't want prior service people so he went Army, and as we've learned, the Army treats its people like absolute CRAP.

Go Air Force or Navy, they treat their people better.

(I don't really know anything about the Marines or Coast Guard, so I really can't say one way or another about those.)
