He's one of those characters that I think has decreased in popularity as time's gone on; I was into Futurama back when it first aired and Bender was ridiculously popular and well-liked with all the merch and advertising focus, but he really hasn't aged well and now to a lot of people just comes off as irritating. His character archetype of "hedonistic arsehole with a heart of gold" has also been done to death in loads of different media by this point, so it feels a little tired now.

I still love him, personally, but a lot of that is probably nostalgia. I did get a kick out of my dentist's assistant joyously pointing out my Futurama shirt and then proceeding to sing "Robot Hell" with the actual dentist who had a drill in my jaw. It was weirdly comforting.

yeah, I would agree with this. I also think he's the type of hedonist which comes across as nihilist, and so that heart of gold part doesn't always feel sincere enough to balance out the rest.

Nayrt, but I’d argue that’s because he’s less “an asshole with a heat of gold”(TM) and more a minor villain who occasionally does a good deed.
