Get that thought out of your head!
(Anonymous) 2023-07-25 03:08 am (UTC)(link)I'll start! Do you think that the metaphorical dead horse you're not supposed to beat is the same one that you couldn't make drink?

(Anonymous) 2023-07-25 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)non-con & transphobia, maybe?
(Anonymous) 2023-07-25 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)Note: When I say strong male characters, it's the characters who are > 80% of the time the tops in ships.
I feel like when you have those super strong characters that both cañon and fandom treat as unquestionably dominant, it's almost a mindscrew if they're portrayed as soft or unsure. In some ways, the reason I craft VJs onto these characters is just because I want them to bottom, and I'm not into butt stuff. But depending on the verse, a male character might undergo a crisis of self if they put too much stock into fitting society's idea of masculinity, which includes having a huge D.
And then you have the non-con. Like I said, even fandom treats having these characters bottom or suffer non-con is rare, so it's almost like a forbidden fruit to all of us. If Link or Zelda was in that soft, vulnerable position, you'd say ok, I saw that coming. But if someone wrote soft, vulnerable, post-rape Ganondorf? The average fan probably wouldn't even know how to react to that. There'd probably be some uncomfortable laughter, or you (general) would assume the writer had just lost their mind, or you'd wonder if this was just some pod person with Ganondorf's name. The average fan would barely be able to fathom it. It's almost forbidden in a way, to portray a character with that much raw dominance and strength as vulnerable and traumatized and needing protection. And that's why I'm so fascinated by it.
And from the strong character's perspective, being powerful is probably baked into their identity at that point. Being SA'd is, wrongly, seen as a thing that happens to weak and/or feminine characters. Being traumatized, that doesn't happen to characters like that. They would probably have to deeply rethink who they are on a fundamental level. For characters who are that powerful for that long, it would probably be almost like losing a limb. Like, they could probably fathom losing to the hero in a legendary battle, but being soft and vulnerable and unable to protect yourself? It would be unthinkable. And much like fandom wouldn't assume that you were just writing a pod person with the character's name, the character themselves might wonder if they're even still really themselves.
I don't know, I just think it's a neat idea.
