This. I haven't even seen the new Star Trek movie, but I've been lurking around the various comms, trying to absorb the story by osmosis just because I really want to be part of the fandom.

And the House fandom really does suck in comparison. I've never seen such a bitter group of fans anywhere else ;_;

We must be the same person, because that's exactly how it is for me. I love House and the fandom, but the ST fandom is so much better in so many, wonderful ways. I didn't know a fandom could be so accepting and awesome until I got into ST.

And in all the years I was into the House fandom I never really became close friends with anyone or met anyone outside of the fandom. I was barely into the ST fandom for two weeks and I've already done a meet up to see the new movie with a girl that lives nearby me. I fucking love this fandom so fucking much!

The acceptance really is amazing. You would think there would be a huge war with the K/S and S/U shippers, but people get along really well, and there are quite a few threesome fics out there (the ultimate solution to all ship wars, imo).

I love that my fandom has had so much life bought back.

The only reason I read this and didn't immediately think (although it did still cross my mind), "Ah, shit, did I get slobbering drunk and make fandom secrets again?" is because I would've used a TOS shot of Star Trek. XD But I know exactly what you mean. I love House, and I've been in the fandom the whole five years it's been around - absolutely obsessed with it for the past seventeen months (which is longer than any other fandom I've ever been interested in - if we're not counting the off-and-on 10 years of Harry Potter, anyway...) but...

It's not even the fighting/bitterness in the House fandom, really. It's just that it's so tragic. Everything is always so sad. The fanworks are depressing, the episodes make me cry every time, without fail. Season 4's ending even put me in a depression that was a tad too hard to get out of for my liking.

But the Trek fandom - everyone's so happy. The show is full of cheesy goodness, the movies are a blast, ontd_startrek is a group of the most hilarous folks I've ever had the pleasure to meet, and nobody really cares who ships who or which characters are most popular or any of that! It's the most fun I've ever had in a fandom. I mean, it's a tad intimidating that there are people who've been in this fandom their whole lives when I'm just starting to get the hang of it, but I'm sure I'll get past that eventually. It's definitely worth it to try, anyway.

Wow, sorry. I'm rambling. I didn't realize how badly I needed to get all that off my chest, I guess. XDD
