every time someone posts something like this a little tiny spark of hope is egnited and then extinguished at the idea of BPRD having a non-movie-retard fandom and realizing that there's no way something like BPRD ever would :/

Hellboy fandom is overrun by people who accept the movie as canon

uhmmm what?

I love the BPRD comics... I like the movies too, but I am an avid reader of the Hellboy and BPRD comics and I don't really understand what my secret has to do with Hellboy fandom being overrun with movie fans... especially since only a comic fan would know about Langdon Everett Caul.

*I'd like to clarify that I'm just hoping you're not accusing me of being a 'movie-retard-fan'.

I don't have issues with the movie fans but like you, I do wish the BPRD comics had more fans. The movie is kind of its own canon... it's a completely different thing, so when people prefer it over the comic, it doesn't bother me much- because it's just a matter of personal taste. I just get frustrated when people say the movies are better at being Hellboy than the comics are, because that's just nonsense... and it is a little irritating when people claim to be HUGE Hellboy fans but only of the movies. It's like... if you're such a big fan, why didn't you at least give the comics a CHANCE? The comics are well-read among comic nerds but not very popular among a general audience. It is disappointing. I share your frustration in that. (Though to be honest, I'm not sure I'd like a big fandom for Hellboy/ BPRD. It's kind of nice to meet the few fans- most of whom are intelligent, fun people. Truthfully, the only pretentious Hellboy fans I've met yet... were movie fans.)

Sorry to double-respond, I was just unsure of your comment's meaning so I commented early, not saying all I wanted to say. It's cool to meet someone else who reads the BPRD comics... because it doesn't happen often. But uh, yeah... just hope you weren't trying to insult me because that would be a bit of a downer.

There is a fandom for the comics, but it's mostly discussion. The fanart and fics seem to be only produced by movie fans. Which explains the huge lack of Daimio in the fandom. I'm a bit disappointed by it too. Let's try to breath life into the comic-fandom.
