I'm pretty neutral on both of them, but I feel like I would understand the deserving/fairness argument more if Danny Ric had had more of a slow decline and didn't have such a good track record before McLaren. His fall off was so jarring that I think it was always more likely that that car was just completely unsuited to his driving style vs him just suddenly becoming a terrible driver. That isn't to say that adaptability and being able to work with what you're given isn't important, but I don't think Red Bull were wrong to weigh those factors, as well as Danny Ric's history with the team, above a 28 year old non-academy driver who didn't even really show flashes of speed, and was up against a teammate with only 2 prior years of F1 (and relatively not as much open-wheel before that) experience himself.

I do think the media surrounding it all was disrespectful and I feel bad for Nyck personally. It's a very cutthroat move to make but I don't think that makes it incorrect or unfair. And on the other side, Nyck signed that contract knowing how RBR operates (with Pierre as the obvious example) but decided that the pressure to perform was worth the chance to make it to Red Bull proper.

Yeah, I agree with all of this. It's like people can't understand that one can be happy to see Daniel in a car and also be sad about Nyck's situation.

I mean personally, I think a lot of the ppl saying Danny ric being washed weren't around for the RB era Daniel or even the Renault era where he most definitely performed, but like anything we'll see where he's going after the season is over.

Also I think the only unfair thing was that this whole drama is that this isn't really about Nyck but about finding a replacement for Checo and RBR's/Helmut Markos cut throat decisions to pressure cook everyone but Max.
