Do you think people should be able to monetize fanfic too?

(Anonymous) 2023-07-31 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
How is that related? Do you not think actors should be paid?

Youtubers are often hobbyists, much like fic writers. Wondering where your line is in the internet content for fun and/or profit debate.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-31 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Youtubers usually own the content that they create to put out into the world. People seldom own the fandom that they write fanfics for and if they do get caught trying to make a profit off a fanfic, there's a good chance they'll get sued (depending on the origin of the fandom of course).

One thing is not like the other.

Naw, the stuff I'm watching right now is using alllll sorts of stuff that's not theirs. Sure some people are 100% original, but a lot of it isn't.

It’s usually fair use, unlike fanfic.

DA

Honestly, I'm. I'll not sub to anyone's Patreon, but you know what, if a writer I like opens commissions I may genuinely take it. If what I want them to write is something from a big company that isn't paying their writers anyway, who cares.

Yes. And the AO3 board should be ashamed that they don't let us. They monetize the site through donations, they should let us do the same. I'm putting out a product people want, and I should be allowed to get paid for that. Copyright is fucking bullshit anyway. I signed up for AO3 because they promised to fight to end it with the Foundation.

Lol no

(Anonymous) 2023-08-01 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
fanfic is not a "product'
AO3 is not gonna end copyright
please tell me you're in therapy

They accept donations to keep the site running.
And you are allowed to get paid for it, just not on AO3.
You are not forced to upload on AO3 and can peddle your bad fanfic literally anywhere else.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-01 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Fuck off.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-01 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
They're fighting to keep fanfic legal, not end copyright.
