Huh. They don’t seem Nazi-related at all as far as the plot goes. Not sure why that was a thing in the first place.

I always thought it was because of the fascist resurgence that has been happening this last decade. My guess is that they decided they wanted none of that shit nor people using her as a dogwhistle, so they removed it. I can understand that intention, but I likewise do not feel comfortable with a game being changed post-release.

Something similar happened with the Medic of Team Fortress 2 in its very, very early release ("Heil Us!"), but they later changed his character into being more of a Mad Scientist in the vein of Dr. Frankenstein rather than... you know.

I mean, they also removed underage pantyshots and there is a notable uptick in fascists and Nazis lately so.

Basically:
- Several sprites and cutscene artwork was altered to remove or downplay pantyshots
- Black Egrets designs were tweaked
- (And this was the real pisser) Some VO packs and artwork from the artbook DLC was removed, effectively removing things people paid for
- Other things I forget ATM

All of this as an underpants-bleaching promotional stunt for ESG. Also devs mocked people who protested and shut down discussions of the patch on official platforms.

Also, this isn't technically "their own work". The original creators are long gone (Mike Z was ousted, Ahad quietly left after disagreements) and now the mobile game's team is continuing development. They're the ones who made this decision.

Generally I think things should "persist" because it's bad precedent to remove them due to changing sensibilities.

Thank you for proving me right. Just for the record, I hate Nazis and I could take or leave the fanservice, but as anoldsmudge pointed out it sets a bad precedent when IP owners can just bleach their catalogue as they see fit. Also, do you feel the same way about the changes to Big Band's backstory? There was interesting commentary in there as it was, but no, gotta get rid of everything the least bit controversial to please potential investors I guess.

sorry but I think nazi aesthetics, often done to make a character look cool, should be purged. There's too many Neo-Nazis today.

I've talked to several people who played the game about the new update, and the reaction was never "muh pantyshots\armbands" but rather "it's kind of shitty and concerning that a company can just go back to a 10-year old game and do this, also Hidden Variable handled this really poorly PR-wise".

But hey, I'm sure your assumptions and insults trump my empirical experience.
