That depends heavily on the fandom. Your experience has been very different from mine, and you have obviously never encountered that contingent of loud, smugly entitled canon het shippers who accuse anyone who doesn't ship the canon het of "disrespecting canon," "disrespecting the creators," calling slash shippers misogynist/accusing them of erasure for ignoring the canon het ship or the het love interest, and/or calling the slash shippers dirty, disgusting fujos.

Also, once you get outside AO3 and tumblr, het is way more popular than slash or femslash (although femslash is more tolerated because it appeals to straight men).

AYRT - You're right! I have not experienced more than a minor amount of any of that in my twenty-plus years in a dozen or so fandoms. Which is rather the point.

If OP didn't want a bunch of us going, "Um, what?" in response to their secret, they should've specified what fandom(s) they were talking about, or at least specified that they were talking about select fandoms, rather that phrasing their secret to be about fandom at large.

Wow, you're sure condescending. You were the one who barged in to insist that the OP couldn't possibly have experienced the thing they're talking about and that it couldn't possibly happen, ever, simply because you have never experienced it.

Have to agree with this. "Fandom" as a whole is not doing what they're saying it is, which is exactly why a lot of the reactions are like "this does not happen where I am."
