(Anonymous) 2023-08-13 09:54 am (UTC)(link)1) Artists do not have archive. So it's on them to decide if they want to risk being sued or not. Usually they slip through the cracks because no one bothers.
2) Disney for example is known for suing or C&D-ing artists
3) Writters can take commissions on their own pages or tumblrs or patreons or whatever. It's not considered evil by majority

(Anonymous) 2023-08-13 11:54 am (UTC)(link)All of this. I'd also add that fanartists trying to make money from comissions have degraded the environment for free artists and everyone who hung around to look without spending money. Many sites where fanartists used to go to have fun, learn from each other, and enthuse about art have come to feel like workplaces.
Ironically, the sites where people don't hesitate to upload art that someone is trying to sell elsewhere have more of the old-internet vibe. No one has anything to guard or keep away from the community, and that seems to make a difference.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-13 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)Yeah, I am not keen on artists making money from fanart.
Tbf I don't miss the internet of old that much because I come from a country with a really toxic artist community. It's always been Serious Business for us.
