Oh man, same. If it's not there in the canon then I don't want it in fics either, you know? It's one thing if the canon itself actually deals with those topics, but otherwise, I want fic that matches the tone of the canon, because that's part of why I enjoyed the canon in the first place.

Like, a gritty detective drama that spends a lot of screentime on the MC's mental state? Sure, gimme dark and gritty fics about him dealing with the aftermath of some of the stuff he's had to see in his line of work. A fun, upbeat adventure show where characters go through some tough stuff but everyone is always fine by the next episode? I want fic that has a similar tone.

Yeah, like. I don't know if this is the point you were trying to make, OP, but Joel absolutely earned the way his story ends. And I really appreciated how this sequel told a different story than the previous game.

Hell yes OP. I'm really disappointed with the direction they've gone. Frankly, Path of Exile does it better.

I wanted more Deckard, more Followers, more Whimsyshire.

Instead I didn't even finish the campaign. It's such a yawnfest.

Well, I can kind of understand where the dudebros are coming from, even if I don't have any precious memories of D1 or D2. It's been widely known that D3 was considered a step down in the series since it first came out. I don't have the attachment to D1 or D2 that others do, but I probably still won't get D4 (or any other ActiBlizz games) anytime soon.

(Story, though? I'm still a little sad about Leah.)

Honestly I don't remember the story of D3 at all, that's how little it stuck with me. There was uh, a girl who was randomly Deckard Cain's relative out of nowhere and then she became Diablo for some reason and that's it. I never really got the sense of a larger world, or a larger world or society in danger

Ngl as soon as Leah was like 'oh I'm Deckard Cain's long lost relative who was never mentioned before and also I'm special' I was like it's gonna be one of those games where everything is left behind to try to make you care about the special girl, isn't it? Then it was. So that's all I remember

I’ve seen it argued that fandom tends to give the opposite of canon, e.g. a very sexless and staid show has horny fandom, and a show with shitty worldbuilding has fans trying to make it make sense.

(I’m not in Hannibal fandom, but if this rule holds true, it must be WAFFy beyond belief.)
