I feel that. Unless some miracle happens and companies and the rich are banned from buying up all the single family homes.

thanks, I have two interviews tomorrow so here’s hoping one of them sticks. my dream trip is actually to go back to Scotland and do the Celtic countries (only stayed in Edinburgh for 3 days last time and didn’t see much outside the city aside from the train up from London). NZ is a trip to get back into travel post Covid and closer to my home country of Australia.

I'm not crazy about it mostly because I have to listen to it at work all the time (in retail previously, currently in hospitality...) but it's not one of my most hated retail songs, not even top ten for me, I think because it's a rather odd sounding song and kind of amuses/distracts me when it comes on instead of just boring and irritating me like some others I could mention. I get what you mean, his backup singers sound almost kind of ethereal? And the repetition could definitely come across as uncanny if you aren't feeling the song in the first place, lol.

Inspired by #7, semi-related question. What song are you always hearing at the store and getting irritated by? It can be for serious reasons, because you've heard it way too many times, or just because it's not to your liking.

Slewfoot has been on my list for a while now. Hope it's worth the wait!

Fantasticland sounds like a story I'd like. Is it not as interesting as the premise makes it seem?

oh my god, a dark angel secret?! my time has come!

while the show was airing i was a max/logan fan but i've come to switch to max/alec upon many rewatches. part of this has to do with realizing upon rewatches that logan's kind of a shithead in season two and that they're not the same people they were when they first fell in love and aren't right for each other anymore and part of it has to do with the knowledge that michael weatherly is an asshole. but what i really want is for max to be happy.

and yes, i am still upset about the show's cancelation 20 years later.

Where Have All the Cowboys Gone is probably mine (thread OP), no serious reason at all and I didn't mind the song the first thousand or so times I heard it, but it was featured on the store playlist at two different crappy jobs I did and having to listen to it roughly two or three times a day every day at two places drove me a little nuts. It's one of those songs that sounds way worse through muffled store speakers too.

I just didn't expect it to be a series of interviews instead of just a story about the events.

That's a hell of a visual. Thank you.

(Because it's catchy!)
Clap along if you can’t get this song out of your head
(Because it's catchy!)
Clap along if you wish it was something else instead
(It's too damn catchy!)
Clap along if you sing this song under your breath
(Insanely catchy!)
Clap along if you beg for the sweet release of death

I quite like it because of the weird dichotomy between the lyrics and the music, but I can see how that could slide into creepy.

Because I went to the desert on a horse with no name

It's more of a Christmas Hate Song but the only place I hear it now is in retail settings. Last Christmas by Wham. Oh I hate it like lesser men hate Baby It's Cold Outside. Like, it's been a fucking year my guy LET GO. yeah yeah yeah queen longing, gender unspecified pronoun "you", etcetera etcetera. Whatever. This song desperately needs EITHER a BICO style duet about how his ex is super stoked he's found a new love, yay, glad we're still friends OR to not be set on Christmas so it can be just a generic "last time I gave you my heart" and doesn't give us serial killer vibes of all this bitterness for a straight year.

I also dislike that bland "minivan rock" of the early 2000s: dare you to move, higher by Creed, ect.

When I worked retail, our "holiday mix" music had *3* different covers of Feliz Navidad.

It isn't time yet, but soon we'll all be subject to the dulcet tones of Noddy Holder screaming "Its Christmas" and singing Merry Christmas at us for two months straight.

Oh, that's not what I would have expected either.

A trip to Japan. Really hoping I can go next year!

I just finished reading No Words by Meg Cabot. I hated the last two books in the trilogy and was hoping I’d like this one, but it was just awful. It made me sad ‘cause I used to love her books and I’d always look forward to getting her new ones, but she hasn’t written a book I’ve enjoyed since the last Heather Wells one.

I haven’t heard it in a while, but I really hated “All About That Bass”. It just made my head want to explode.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-16 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
One of my friends finds it creepy too, but she’s never explained why. I like it and it always makes me want to dance.

Hahaha! At one store I worked the Christmas playlist had at least 3 versions of Let it Snow, one of which was bizarrely slow and dirgelike. Stocking shelves to that was mind numbing... Let it snow... Let it snow... Let it snoooooooooooww...............

I could do a whole thread of replies to myself just on the worst Christmas music. It's so bad. Minivan rock is a great term for that, lol. I do listen to a lot of 2000s rock voluntarily but it's different and way worse when it's the same handful of songs that all sound alike, over and over.

any song played over Christmas. I can only take so many All I Want For Christmas Is You replays

I'm not familiar with the author, but what didn't you like about her recent books?

(Anonymous) 2023-08-16 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I thought it was bad, but that wasn't because of the insects. It didn't seem like the movie understood its characters. It sometimes seemed like the actors had just gotten the lines for the first time. The tension was all over the place. The plot had some really convenient coincidences that I just had a hard time buying.
