it was all about not losing your cool.

Ha! I see what you did there. :)

I know that in the BBC great British menu show the production team are infamous for sabotaging blast chillers for dramatic timing. Prettyuch every chef on it has said it happens and they take it into account when doing menu prep at this point.

That's interesting. I don't think it had to be sabotage in this case, though. They're working with rather small fridges with top freezers, outside, in summer, with not enough time to properly make and fully freeze ice cream. THAT'S the sabotage, nobody has to mess around with mechanical stuff.

And to add, the challenges are thought of WELL before the week comes, so they couldn't predict the heat wave.

LOL, Bingate. That really takes me back. In many ways I think season 5 was my all time favorite season of GBBO. Not for the Baked Alaska Incident, but just in general because it was a great competition and I really felt like the finalists were all top bakers who could win. (As opposed to 1-2 really good bakers and someone who got lucky.)

That was such a silly thing. I didn't have any feelings about Iain either way, but Bingate was embarrassing. Imagine having such a big tantrum on television that you threw your dessert out rather than at least trying to salvage it. SMH.

Especially since a fellow contestant had her ice cream not chill the same way and she still presented something!!!

That's what made it so regrettably, embarrassingly cringe. Making mistakes under pressure is normal, it's going to happen. Iain declined to deal with it like a mature adult, and IMO, he's never expressed the appropriate amount of remorse or embarrassment for behaving like a child.

Yeah doesn't he STILL believe he was sabotaged???
