Agreed. This allowed exploration and experimentation in the medium, and it's basically gone now. Everything is being homogenized to what gets the biggest payday for the least cost. It's no way to do art.

Hard agree. Not every show is great right off the mark, some take a while to really hit their stride. I'm not a hater of TNG's early seasons, though. They showed promise and potential that was, IMO, more than fulfilled by the later seasons and the characters. It'd be a shame if that didn't happen, and I agree it would be very unlikely to happen in today's climate.

What gets me is killing shows becoming not enough people binged them. Some shows are more appropriate for slow consumption.
