There’s a thing in a lot of media where the guy is torn between a “light feminine” and a “dark feminine” character. There’s a decent amount of Japanese and Japanese-inspired media that skips the guy and has the two female archetypes love each other (Madoka Magica, Mage & Demon Queen, lots of stuff by Nagashiro Rouge.) As best I can tell from the posts on my dash, Magical Ladybug is apparently what you get when you back-port that lesbian ship into het by making the dark feminine character a dude.

The light feminine character is also a dude in MLB. He's also the same person as the dark feminine character ... MLB shipping can get *confusing*)

But yeah, MLB is in many, many, ways an attempt to make a french magical girl anime, but straighter.

There is a boy who looks a LOT like Marinette, who kind of sort of has a boyfriend later on? It's just more background. Plus the two girls who are dating-but-they-don't-say-it-too-loud. There was also one overt, textual same-sex declaration of love recently.

Heh, when the show was new there was a secret from someone who'd thought they were both girls. (And it was ludicrous because the OP decided not to watch it when they realized Chat Noir was a boy, because a boy taking up space on a girl's show was sexist and it would be more original anyway if he were a girl. Because you know, catgirl in a skintight outfit has never ever been done before.)

Secret maker here and I don't know why I read them as femme-ish guys and not two girls, I was just so convinced they were both male until I saw the new trailer lol!
