Re: What is some childhood stuff that you enjoyed that you don't know if anyone else did?

My favorite book growing up was Who Put That Hair in My Toothbrush? by Jerry Spinelli. He's a famous author, but that's not one of his well-known books. I read his others too, and when Stargirl came out I was shocked that the narrator had the same name as a minor character in Toothbrush, Leo Borlock. I've lived with the question on my mind of whether or not it's the same character, but the book doesn't seem well known enough for there to be much discussion on it.

In my overly invested calculations, they can't be the same person because they're both in high school, but the books take place in very different states and Stargirl's Leo says he lived there since he was 12, and the end of the book says Stargirl moved up north their senior year, implying he didn't. I really wish my childhood book had more fans to talk about this with.

Oh wow! I loved Spinelli as a kid, never made that connection though, I don't even recall which books were my favorites since it's been quite a few years. Do you think they are like, alternate timeline versions of the same character?

That's possible, although they don't seem that much alike (the character in the Toothbrush book was mostly just a name mentioned as a guy who everyone went to for good relationship advice, but the one in Stargirl seemed too awkward to be that kind of person). Or maybe Spinelli had the name Leo Borlock on his list of potential character names and forgot he'd already used it.
