I am not a fan of musical eps generally, and I hated the self-awareness of this one that was supposed to come off as quaint and quirky but just felt really cringy to me. Just not my thing.

I hate musical episodes but I was willing to give this a shot because it was Strange New Worlds. But if people who like musicals and like Star Trek hated it, I won't even bother.

Maybe you like them both for different reasons? So when they clash you don't feel it much.

I love the show and was looking forward to the episode, and while I did like the episode, I was a tiny bit disappointed that it was all very samey for the songs. Lots of the big emotional songs and not much of the fun quirky musical numbers which I get was for plot reasons, but I still wanted some fun songs.

Don't feel bad, OP. That episode was universally panned for the cringey music. On the whole, I liked the numbers but the lyrics were very basic, especially if you're used to Broadway musical style where the lyrics tend to be more complex/full of wordplay and more rapid in delivery.

Hated it too. I don't mind musical episodes but it felt like it was generated by ChatGPT. Absolutely soulless, musically and plot-wise. They needed a stronger understanding of both musical structure and Star Trek lore to make it work.
