Anyone a Fan of Listening To Soundtracks?

(Anonymous) 2023-08-22 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Any favorite soundtracks for any shows/movies/games/etc?

Also, does anyone or has ever listened to a soundtrack without seeing the original source?
(Latter question inspired by me currently listening through a collection of cds that I had found from shows I haven't watched like Dawson's Creek and Queer as Folk).

I answered this a little on the other post: Moulin Rouge, Across the Universe (but that's just the Beatles idk if that counts even if i particularly like the arrangements), the bodyguard (once again...mostly just whitney houston lol), the first sex and the city soundtrack, and the great gatsby soundtrack.

Yeah sorry about that, I have two tabs open and wrote this in the wrong post :'D
Still you got good taste! I used to listen to the Moulin Rouge soundtrack a lot when I first got a CD of it - especially loved the love melody song mashup by Ewan McGregor.

Yes. Faves include both the Trainspotting soundtracks, The Crow, Batman Forever, Valley Girl etc.
I do have a few soundtracks of movies I haven't seen (Mad Love, Amateur etc. Just bought them when thrifting because I liked some of the bands on them)

About 80% of what I listen to is OSTs. Here are some favorites.

Movies: Gladiator, It Follows, Under the Skin (didn't like the movie), Wind River, Prometheus, Mad Max Fury Road, Schindler's List, Pan's Labyrinth, The Fog.

Shows: Game of Thrones, Band of Brothers, Mandalorian, Chernobyl, Sherlock, Broadchurch.

Games: Bioshock, Little Nightmares, What Remains of Edith Finch, Braid, World of Goo, WoW: Wrath of the Lich King, The Last Of Us.

And yes, I listen to original soundtracks of things I've never consumed. Like the game Bastion or movie The Hours.

I don't really listen to soundtracks that are not original or instrumental.

Hard Day's Night, Rocky Horror, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, the blues show Martin Scorsese produced several years ago, Chicago, the original version of Hairspray, I could keep going and going.

Most of my CDs are soundtracks. I used to sleep to them. Contact was my favorite as a kid. Now I have mostly gaming soundtracks. The Assassin's Creed games have absolutely lovely soundtracks (I think one recently won an award). The Witcher 3 soundtrack is also really good.

For movies and tv, my favorites are Hannibal, both the movie and the tv show, Gladiator, the Bear McCreary Battlestar Galactica soundtrack, KinnPorsche (especially the acoustic versions), Pirates of the Caribbean, The Piano, Hidalgo, and The Fifth Element.

My favorite music genre. I love so many. ANything by John Williams (especially Star Wars and Jurassic park). The Doctor Who ones (other than the ones with the new composer I don't like as much). A lot of video game ones. A lot of Disney ones. The LOTR ones. Star Trek movie ones. Some of the MCU ones. The How to Train Your Dragon ones. Gladiator. Anything by Ramin Djawadi.

For ones that are songs rather than score, I like a lot of Broadway ones/movie versions of musicals. The Prince of Egypt has such great songs. Juno has some great music. The Guardians movies. Pulp Fiction. Legally Blonde. Empire Records (don't love the movie, but the songs are great). Forrest Gump (overrated movie, but great music).

I'd say the Lion King is the best soundtrack of all time overall. Both the movie version and the musical version. Moana comes close, though.

Sure. The Sound of Music, Runaway Bride, The Big Chill, Due South, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Oliver (I couldn't find an inexpensive movie soundtrack, so I got different Broadway ones of the songs I liked), Center Stage, Love Actually, and When Harry Met Sally. Not my favorites, but I still like a few songs off Moulin Rouge, Fame, My Best Friend's Wedding, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Grease 2, Sweet Charity.

I have the Dawson's Creek one, but I did watch that show. I have the Broadway My Fair Lady, but I've only seen the movie version. I've only seen bits and pieces of a recorded Broadway version of Into the Woods, but I love both the earlier and the later Agony.

And I like a lot of television show theme songs. So, I have a couple different compilations.

I listen to a lot of instrumental movie soundtracks when I'm working. And I tend to listen based on composer so I often listen to stuff from movies I've never seen. I'll just go grab a bunch of Jerry Goldsmith stuff from whatever random movies and throw it on a Playlist. Or 70s Italian horror and crime movies. Old Italian movies have amazing soundtracks. Or old Hammer instrumental tracks. That's a great source.

I listen almost exclusively to video game soundtracks. Stardew Valley, Mass Effect/Dragon Age, Final Fantasy games and their covers, Chrono Trigger, Shin Megami Tensei/Persona.

The first album I ever bought was the sound track to the movie Ladyhawke. That main theme, with the weird fusion of trad classical music and 80s synths...
