So, are you serious about wanting to give up the cheap thrill of troll fic and learning how to write serious fic that gets reviews? Or are you content to be a trollfic writer. I'm not sure by this secret.

I have some tips if you want to go the serious fic route, but it's too much meh to bother with if you are happy doing what you do.

Omigod, that's you? And it's intentional? Oh, I'm so glad to have this answered! Because that thing makes me wet myself laughing, and as much as I think it'd be awesome if it were unintentionally hilarious, I'm sort of glad there isn't someone out there who really thinks that's how to write.

OP here:

To be honest, Dark Yagami was a fun little writing experiment I did to warm for NaNoWriMo, which ended up getting way out hand. When I ended up getting more hits in a day on Dark Yagami than my serious fics do in a month, it just felt like I had - I don't know - a duty to keep writing it. Most of my actual fics are for small, fairly obscure series, and while I quite like Death Note, I don't have anywhere near the skill to write a proper fic (and can't really ship any of the characters either; Light, L, Near, Mikami - they're all asexual, FER CHRISAKE. Maybe not Mello, but I hate him).

When the idea of Dark Yagami popped into my head, I laughed, wrote 800 words of stupidity, and posted them to ff.net to see what would happen. And amazingly, some people noticed, and read it, and reviewed it, and started linking to it.

So Dark Yagami ended up being my easy way into DN fandom/cheap shot at internet fame (and hey, I made it to TVTropes - that's not bad). But I ran out of ideas quickly. Later chapters just feel like a bunch of random events thrown together, with more than a hint of cheap My Immortal ripoffery - I think I jumped the shark when L died for the first time (JUST LIKE THE TV SERIES LOLOLOL). And it's bloody hard to get the energy to work hard on a proper story when I know that a bunch of badly spelled bullshit that took me 15 minutes to write will get hundreds of times the readers and will probably get far more helpful criticism (I'm a shameless attention whore; so sue me).

Combined with a number of recent reviews by people who were less amused than offended by the fic (some of them rather vitriolic; I know I was a troll, but people who genuinely need help with their writing might not see the funny side of comments like "I really hope that your fingers fall off so you can't kill the world with you horrific stories any longer") I decided now was a good time to call it quits, come clean, burn my bridges and have a good old fashioned flounce.

Now I can forget about Dark Yagami and actually focus on the sort of stuff that doesn't give fandom a bad name. Hopefully I've at least made more people happy than angry with this 'story'.

TL;DR: "wah wah, flouncedy flounce flounce."

Dear God I hope this is true.

This story provided me with the most laughs I've had in a long time, and I really had a wonderful time reading it.

Successful troll is successful. Very much so.

All I have to say is thank you for writing this. You seem to have an actually decent sense of humor, and I would love to read something serious from you. :)

I liked your fic~ a few chapter in, I figured it was probably not actually serious, but it made me crack up soooo much. So thank you, it probably didn't do my eyes much good, but I had a lot of laughs and while it sucks, it is different and good for a cheery mood (and those serious people can read actual fics XP)
