Hee. I'm writing a novel now, and one of my favorite procrastinating daydreaming past times is to imagine shipping different characters together in relationships that diverge from my current plan. Hopeless shipper, I am.

I wonder if there aren't, in fact, a lot of authors out there who write fanfic for their own stories? I've had to cut so many little scenes and moments that would make great drabbles/vignettes, but bog down the storyline. I imagine other writers do the same, and it must be tempting to want to share those.

I'm outlining a novel now, possibly the first of a series, and I'm now realizing that some of my supporting characters are intriguing me more than my main character, and ships are cropping up in hypothetical sequels when the first book isn't even laid out yet. XD


In my comment to the OP (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomsecrets/306262.html?thread=155896662#t155896662) I advised strongly against comming out, but I wouldn't be surprised if some of them were. How could you resist? I don't even mean it as a strictly ego thing (maybe a little, heh), but I can easily see how much fun it would be to freely discuss the stories and characters you love, and to hear other people's reactions, without the stigma of the person you're talking to knowing you're the creator. I love to talk about things I love, and if I wrote it, I'd feel very close to the subject matter.

The trouble is reading it. I can see myself writing fanfic, but I might only publish, not actually read, if the threat of being sued is a real threat in publishing these days. But it's hard to separate the two. But even if you couldn't read fanfic, you could still use icons and watch vids and have your own fanmixes to inspire your next book...
