I mean, just because you only had one crying emotional breakdown at work doesn't mean that doesn't suck. Most people prefer not to have any.

It also doesn't make green screen inherently bad just because one actor was uncomfortable filming alone at first.

It was bad in The Hobbit, though. The mix of practical and CGI effects in Lord of the Rings was a fantastic balance.

It was bad in The HObbit because it was bad CGI, not because they used it. CGI and practical effects are both equally good and bad, depending on how they are used. Really good CGI can look entirely realistic and entirely good.

More specifically, it was bad in The Hobbit because the studio wanted a 3D film. Forced perspective, used so well in the LotR films, doesn't work in 3D.

+1

(Anonymous) 2023-08-24 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my god, is that why they did that?

(Anonymous) 2023-08-24 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Is anyone actually saying that all CGI use is bad? Who are you talking to?

Sure, as it did in Lord of the Rings!

(Anonymous) 2023-08-24 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed. The LOTR look better than the Hobbit films, despite the time gap between them. It's a shame, really.

Did anyone actually say green screen was inherently bad, or are you just arguing with an imaginary opponent for the lulz?

(Anonymous) 2023-08-24 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
When filming LotR, he wasn't filming alone, that's the point.

I may have misunderstood the article I read but I always thought he got to hate the green screens later on. He was OK with the process at first but eventually he got sick of it and wanted to act with other actors again.
