You do you, OP. I'll cop to liking the Cinderella one but have stayed away from most of it because it feels very money grabby to me.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-25 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I absolutely can't stand even a single one of them but as long as someone finds enjoyment in them I'm all for it.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-25 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Same *shrug*
Plus I love getting different versions of the same movie (it's the same story I already love but now it's different enough that I can rewatch it without getting bored), so I love remakes in general.

Agreed! I LOVE Cinderella and Maleficent. I think the ones like Dumbo & The Little Mermaid are perfectly cute and appreciate that they're trying new stuff with the stories, even if it doesn't always work (I *want* to love the Burton Alice, I do!). The ones like The Jungle Book and The Lion King are, to me, wholly unnecessary, but whatever, and the only one I REALLY hated was Beauty & The Beast because that was some Grade A character assassination and CinemaSins kowtowing.

Which character was assassinated?

I am still perplexed at the Lion King being called a "live action" remake. Isn't it CG? Like they didn't train real animals to wander around...

(Anonymous) 2023-08-26 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Real animals would have emoted better, but it’s hard to get them to stick to the script.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-25 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
They hold no appeal for me but knock yerself out!

(Anonymous) 2023-08-26 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
I don't outright hate them, or enjoy them, personally. I think they can be pretty good, and remember thinking Maleficent was pretty neat. I'm not against them continuing to make it, just at least make it something new and interesting.

Some of them I found entertaining, but I typically have been pretty disappointed by the lack of visual interest compared to the animated movies they're inspired by. Like, Maleficent was cool and I liked the movie a lot, but Sleeping Beauty is so visually striking in a way Maleficent isn't. Yes, it's a different story, but I wish it was bolder stylistically. Live action can be just as bold and unique as animation, just a different way of making a film, so I would like to see more fantastical and creative visuals. They often leave me unfavorably comparing them to the animated versions.

I feel like Malificent was different because it approached the familiar story from another angle. The other live actions don’t do that IMO.

I’ve only seen Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast. I loved Cinderella, but wasn’t excited by Beauty and the Beast, although that was probably largely due to not being particularly impressed by Emma Watson as Belle.

i think the next one they do should be the original unused script for Emperors New Groove, they've already paid out on the script so it'd be free money. When did Disney stop liking free money?

(Anonymous) 2023-08-26 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
This is a great idea, actually. That'd be probably the only remake I'd be hyped for.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-26 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
The problem for me is that I enjoy fables and fairy tales A LOT and I've read a lot of different takes on them these last few years (published books, visual novels, fanfiction etc.), so these new "takes" by Disney are just soulless and unimaginative for me.
I still enjoy Disney cartoons because they're animated and I love animation in general, but the live action movies have nothing that interest me.

Damn, I much prefer rewatching the Descendants for the 10th time than watching these live action remakes lol
Which is why I'm salty about all these remakes: DISNEY. PLEASE! THROW YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE!

But still, I understand why people can enjoy the live actions. You do you, nonny.

i think i'd like them if i felt like they were actually engaging, like artistically, with both the original fairy tale/fable and the modern world, but it's more like they're engaging with their modern surface level criticism which is much stupider.
