There's nothing wrong with wanting attention on something you created, it's fairly normal. But on the other hand if the only thing you care about is feedback you will absolutely get to the point of never being happy, I've seen this so many times in fandoms with fic writers, artists, those who were so overfocused on how many numbers they got were never, ever happy. Even if the numbers were good for the fandom.

And honestly OP if you're being serious and less than 3-digit numbers for your comments on a fic isn't 'enough' you're already there. No number will ever make you happy and at this point: this is a you problem.

Also, what even constitutes a "flop" when it comes to fanfic? How long it's been posted with little to no reaction? The numbers in terms of the reaction? Some other factor? 'Cause a lot of fics take a while for people to find them and to either blow up or, at the very least, get some decent attention.

But some people seem to think that if their fic's been up for a day, or even a week, and there's not a lot of traction, it's clearly flopped. It's like patience isn't a thing anymore, or people forget that just as writers have lives, so too do readers, and they may take a while to get to reading a fic, or whatever.

Yes. Also, speaking as a reader, sometimes I need time to find the inspiration, to find my words, in order to leave a thoughtful comment. So it might not happen right after I've read the fic. In the meantime, I leave a kudo as a placeholder to let the author know I liked it. So either you prefer to have comments of lesser quality as soon as possible, or you're willing to be more patient and wait for something better. Lastly, for us non-native English speakers, it's often easier to translate from English to our mother tongue, meaning "to read the fic", than to translate what we want to say in our primary language into English, meaning "to leave a comment".
