What's the weirdest hill you would die on?

Anything from fandom to real life

Mustard should always be optional on a sandwich.

Agreed. I've never had mustard on any sandwiches.

Also pickles. Honestly why can't most burger places just make it so if you want certain stuff on your burger you have to ask . Why is having pickles and onions and tomatoes on a burger considered default and you have to intentionally remember to ask for them off??

I mean I sometimes like onions but pickles are nothing but gross vinegar soaked nastiness that I don't want on my burger.

Where are you from? Because over here, it's not only very much optional, but if you did take the option people would think you're a weirdo.

UK - it used to be All Mayo, All The Time but for the past 5-10 years pretty much every sandwich you can buy has mustard in it.

Cereal belongs on its own, without milk.

My kid eats her cereal like that

Yes. I have never cared for milk in my cereal.

Fandom stuff: Team Cap was right in the MCU (especially in the context of the MCU).

The Simpsons had some bad seasons but recent seasons are great.

Sam from TWD is one of the most tragic characters and I'll defend him to my last breath. Granted, no one has likely thought of him since that episode ended.

Non Fandom stuff: Rescues make it way too hard to adopt. I should not need four references and $800 to adopt from you. I think a lot are just fronts to get rid of puppy mill dogs.

Steak just isn't that great.

Rescues are ridiculously hard to adopt from. A relative of mine tried to get a cat forever, but she didn't have the right vet records, didn't have the right references, didn't have the right whatever. The ironic thing was she used to work in adoption services, and was like "I know what it takes to get a KID and I could get one of those easier than getting a cat!" (She did eventually get a cat.) Someone else I know, when she tried to get a cat, they wanted to know NEXT OF KIN, as in, who would take care of the cat if she died.

We just found our cat in the bushes lol.

It is especially crazy when these rescues want crazy amounts of money and then don't even behavior test the dogs. "This dog is $400 to adopt and we don't know how he is around kids, cats, or other small animals!"

Or, "This dog is $400 and hates other dogs. And cats. And men. It cannot be around mirrors. Needs a two hour walk every day. Will only eat heritage farm turkey. He's been at our shelter for 3 years and is such a good boy and we just don't know why people won't adopt him."

I can't enjoy steak unless it's medium-rare. Good balance of tenderness/juices, but that's just me.

I've tried all levels of doneness and cost. I'll always choose a nice chicken breast over steak.

Is the rescue thing location dependent? (And to be fair I have never adopted a dog) Because when I adopted my cat it was a simple questionaire about what I expected a cat might cost me monthly and things like, do I have other animals, children, etc. Then I said, "I like this one." (though really he sat on my lap and then tried to follow me out the door so it was more like he liked me lol), I paid I think $125? and took him home same day.

Might be. Will also be the difference between a shelter (generally cheaper) and a rescue. I was looking at rescues because I wanted a smaller dog. Most of the shelters around me are pit or shepherd mixes.

Right there with you on this one.

"USian" should not be a word, and if you use it unironically you look like an uneducated fool. I'm fine with coming up with something other than "American" for people from the US (although I don't think American is offensive per se), but for the love of god USian is not it. You can't use acronyms like that.

"Usonian" is technically correct, with "Usona" or "Usonia" being an alternate name for the USA, but it's never been official, and it's very obscure.

Re: What's the weirdest hill you would die on?

(Anonymous) 2023-08-30 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
You've just reminded me that I will die on the hill that 'American' should NEVER be used to mean people from the United States. Fuck you, there are two whole American CONTINENTS, with 35 sovereign states, you don't get to claim that name just because you weren't creative enough to give your country a real name.

Whatever you say, USAnian

Re: What's the weirdest hill you would die on?

When I was younger I recall coining myself as an "USA-ian" as a joke to non-American friends. I had no idea anyone took USA-ian/US-ian seriously lmao

Bandwagoning onto anything isn't ever a bad thing. Everyone bandwagons at some point, just some people won't admit it.

Re: What's the weirdest hill you would die on?

(Anonymous) 2023-08-30 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
For me, it depends on what they're bandwagoning on.

US teacher training is inflexible and in desperate need of reform. I feel like teachers also prioritize the wrong changes if they do change their classrooms.
