The main reason why I'll never read or watch Outlander is because I've read the Lord John books and I know the main series just never mentions Stephan von Namtzen. I really liked him and John together and am pouting that he's not John's endgame love interest (if John is allowed to ever truly get over Jaime ugh).
I feel like that's a way pettier reason than the ones many other people have (the rape stuff for example).

My reason is that Diana Gabaldon compared fanfic to "white slavery" and raping her family while basing her main character on Jamie from Doctor Who and giving a copy of her book to his actor Frazer Hines. Yes, the one with the graphic torture and rape. But it's totally fine to make a TV adaptation of it, of course.

Hi, do you have a source on this? I'm not familiar with the author but thought that sounded interesting (I read Fandom Secrets for the drama) and I found a lot of strange posts against fanfiction but did not see those specific examples.

Hell yes!!! Thank you. It seems I missed the 'white slavery' post by looking at a repository of deleted blog posts when I should have been looking for forum posts. This is nuts; I love it.
