Also though, it is not and cannot be, "canon" no matter how many people agree with it, unless it a) happened or is mentioned onscreen, b) the actors/writers/directors involved with the production have said "this is true". You don't get to make up your own canon, that's why it's canon. Canon you make up is called a "headcanon" and it's just a strongly held opinion by someone who can't change canon anyway.

I mean the argument is that it did "happen onscreen", just very subtly.

You don't have to find the argument convincing, but they're not saying "this thing I made up is canon because I made it up".
