Inspired by #5: Headcanons you disagree with or dislike?

Fandom: The Untamed

"Lan Wangji is on the autism spectrum and playing the guqin is stimming" was a really dumb take. I get it... you look at a character who's very cool and emotionally reserved, not very social, etc. and sure, maybe. But there's a very solid, unambiguous canon explanation for why he plays the guqin - it's a form of magic (they don't call it this in the fandom, but essentially it's magic) where the music can be used as a weapon, or for healing/helping someone control the darker magic within them, or for communicating with the spirits of dead people. It's not a coping mechanism for LWJ personally.

Yeah, I can get on board with autistic!LWJ, but the guqin is one of his tools. The only time we ever see him playing it for anything other than work is when he's entertaining/courting WWX. His playing is not a stimming behavior.

Any and all headcanons involving autism or bisexual characters being deemed exclusively gay. The latter really annoys me, bisexual erasure still being so prominent in 2023 is just so... grr.

I just can't take any X is autistic headcanons seriously. I hated that phase of fandom where every damn character people were declaring had aspergers. It was exhausting

Patton and Janus of Sanders sides being ex husbands.

Any 'X character has panic attacks' or fobbing some kind of social anxiety on a character that clearly doesn't exist. I get wanting to explore a more vulnerable side to a character, but I can't stand the way fandoms will often do it by writing a grown-ass adult as a 13 year old who wouldn't be able to do their job if they were breaking down all the time like they do in fic.

There are versions of this I like - for example Tony Stark being an alcoholic self-medicating for anxiety - but it always gets taken waaaaay too far.

Abusive!Melkor is a headcanon I hate. I mean specifically abusive towards Sauron. Hate it. Is really antithetical to how I view Sauron and their dynamic.

The Feanor can do no wrong headcanons are really irritating. Like, no. Some of the things I agree with, like the Silmarils were his property, and some of his actions were from his rage at his father's death, not just losing the Silmarils. But the kinslaying, the burning the ships, the forcing his sons to re-swear the oath at the end as he died, even though at that point he knew it was impossible to fulfill. Nothing could possibly justify those things.

packmom!stiles, like where the fuck did this even come from? he was a ruthless little shit, which i liked but the fandom really warped everything about his character in the worst way for a ship.

the grand majority of childhood headcanons for Sam and Dean, because a lot of times they're explicitly counterindicated by canon, and I find "dean wasn't that interested in taking care of sam but did only when directed" much much more interesting and believable.

hardison actually being cinnamon role. I'm calling this a headcanon because a lot of people took parker and eliot's self-loathing which they project onto hardison as being "better" in the long way down job as like...actually hardison. no.

I’m years late to The Old Guard fandom, and the general consensus seems to be that Joe & Nicky are married/legally husbands. I ship them hard and think they’re fully committed to each other, but I don’t think they’re married? I just don’t think they would put much stock in that tradition after being alive for hundreds of years and seeing hundreds of societal changes. (I might have missed a mention of it in canon, but I don’t remember it being stated in the movie OR the comics.)
