Rice cookers aren't because people don't know how to make rice without them. They're for people who eat a LOT of rice, cook it regularly, want perfect rice every time without babysitting it on the stove and who don't want to take up a burner cooking rice. It's not a coincidence that they're very common in Asian countries where rice is a daily staple of the diet.
