They do say people get more intolerant and right wing as they get older.

I feel like revelling in violence committed upon others guilt-free without considering the consequences is more of a right-wing move, but you're certainly free to disagree.

DA

For what it's worth, I agree with you.

Thanks. I mean, I think anon's just trolling to get a rise, but wanting to watch a comic book hero punch the bad guy comes from the same place some of the darkest alt-right media comes from: the dopamine hit of seeing someone enact violence upon those who transgress the social contract, and lionizing the enactor of that violence. It's ugliest, most brutal kind of fantasy, and we absolve ourselves of guilt for enjoying it by telling ourselves that everyone is okay in the end, that the hero is a good person, that their sense of justice is always correct, etc. (But the people I don't like are the real bad guys and they deserve it, unlike those other people's bad guys! I'll make them try to blow up the world or something cartoonishly evil to prove it!!! So there! Ka-pow! Guilt-free dopamine!)

I'm not saying I don't also enjoy that kind of thing from time to time (everyone does, it's hardwired into us as social animals), but it's important to remind yourself that this is babyfood for the soul, and that nuance and the consequences of violent acts exist, rather than to dismiss those as "edgy". The world is all about nuance and the consequences of violent acts, unfortunately.
