I think that it's possible to be concerned about one's looks even with emotional maturity and diverse life experience; it could actually come about due to such self-awareness.

This happens to be the boat I'm in. Given how I still get carded despite nearly being 40, it's not great. I worry that my looking younger than my age may have actually cost me two promotional opportunities in the last couple years.
