If I have to be salty with a Disney's adaptation would be with Pocahontas. At least they didn't make the Hunchback of Notre Dame exactly like the book because oooooh boy, the original book is way too dark.

I actually like the Hunchback movie. Probably considered racist by today’s standards, but it’s not like the book is a shining example of racial tolerance. And Pocahontas is a LOT as far as the weird race stuff.

I like the Hunchback movie too! They really made a good adaptation of Victor Hugo's book.

Minus the gargoyles.

Not only too dark, but WAY too long. I tried to read it and couldn't get more than halfway through because it just DRAGGED.

I think I read it in French when I was studying the language? Which means I probably missed a lot of nuance, but all the having to look up words probably kept the draggy parts from being quite so overwhelming.

I forgive a lot for both movies because their soundtracks are top tier.

I have to say, the Korean and Italian version of "Someday" make me cry until today (Yes, Luis Miguel sang the Latin American version but come on, Neri per caso did it amazing).

Isn't that what you expect from a Disney adaptation though? And honestly, I preferred their version of The Little Mermaid to Andersen's, both in a story sense and in a metaphorical sense.

I used to be the same but somewhere in my 20s I came around to giving changes a fair chance. Instead of immediately dismissing a change as bad, I try more to accept the new thing as a whole and see how much I liked it. Sometimes the deviations and changes annoy me, other times not as much.

Probably unpopular opinion but I like the Disney version of Hunchback of Notre Dame.
