Both really good points, I think this is why I find so many mainstream M/F romances in media so offputting. It's either Sexy Lamp or Manic Pixie Dream Girl, and reminds me uncomfortably of how many guys still think it's weird and gay to love and care about a woman beyond how sexy she is.
