As someone who plays OW neatly every night, it is fun if you like that style of game. There is absolutely no meaningful lore in game. And the stuff they add, they usually fuck up later with different lore.

I'll always be sad that Cassidy and Genji being in Blackwatch together wasn't revealed until after the major pairings were established. :(

The lore seems pretty inconsistent, I recall a bunch of arguing from people I followed who were in the fandom about which lore was "actual canon." The appealing character designs and vague tropes suggested by what lore there is really lend themselves to slashy goodness from what I know, but I have the impression there isn't much strict canon to go on, and it's very much up to fic writers and fanartists how to interpret what's there. Hmm, I tend to prefer single player FPS games and haven't played much multiplayer anything for a bit. I do get curious sometimes though since I do look at Overwatch fan stuff (for very shallow reasons, hence the secret). I'm glad you've been having a good time with the game!

They can't even get the ages of characters consistent. And some characters have almost no lore to speak of.

Overwatch is free to play now so might be worth a try.

I actually unfollowed someone a few years back because they kept getting into shipping drama over the characters' inconsistent ages, like anti-adjacent drama and arguments over which canon was the real canon, we had other fandoms in common but it was way too much drama and negativity on my dashboard. Especially because the canon didn't even stick to one version!

That's cool, thank you for letting me know. Maybe I should give it a try, I have a few friends who play.
