Honestly, if you're only assaulting people's ears and not their rights, you're doing religion way better than most.

(Not to say I have any confirmation of your ability; I'm just going by your words.)

(Anonymous) 2023-10-01 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
To my understanding, you're doing it right.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-01 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
That's the BEST way to do religion.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-01 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, you mean the best way?

(Anonymous) 2023-10-01 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Use the voice creator gave you, but. You're doing it right.

I was thinking last year that the only thing I miss about attending church is everyone singing together. Which probably means I need to go to more concerts or find some kind of non-religious-affiliated choir to join, because group singing is just fun.

...how is this fandom-related?

(Anonymous) 2023-10-01 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I was surprised to see it too, but I suppose religious communities could be considered fandoms in a way? That word... does not come to my mind personally when I think of describing religious communities, but it is a group of people who share activities and interests, so I can see how it resembles or can overlap with fandom, or at least why someone in fandom might consider it similar to their fandoms. I guess that might be why OP shared it here, I really don't know. We've had secrets related to religious subjects before and figures from religion, so I guess a secret about religious practice isn't totally out of the box? It's focused on their singing hobby as well as their religious practice, which may be why it is fandom. I don't remember if we've had similar secrets to this or not. I'm honestly just thinking out loud here. If OP stops by this comment thread I would be interested to hear their thoughts.

All religion is fandom.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-02 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
Religion is the OG of fandoms.

As long as you aren't being outwardly disrespectful or somehow causing a disturbance during the services with your singing (I doubt it, lol), that seems just fine to me. A lot of people participate in religious services for community or cultural reasons, rather than spiritual, you aren't alone.

Y'know, I ditched church altogether several years ago when I recieved my autism diagnosis as-an-adult and suddenly felt Very justified in absolutely hating all the social parts of organized religion... but I've kept going to Taizé prayers because the singing does me good. So, I hear you! no pun intended :p

If it's just about the singing I can highly recommend public sing-alongs. We have some of them even in my area (and it's quite rural) where you just meet in a pub or park and sing your heart out with some likeminded folks. I love it!
