Samanta Schewblin is an author from Argentina. Her novella Fever Dreams is great. It can be and should be read in one sitting. Her (surreal) horror collection Mouthful of Birds is also amazing.

Stephen Graham Jones is Native American. His book The Only Good Indians is amazing.

Kazuo Ishiguro wrote one of the most devastating books I've read, Never Let Me Go.

I wasn't a huge fan of Mouthful of Birds, it was just too weird for me, and I usually like weird. I was not in a great place mentally when I read it, though, so maybe I should try another of her books.

I've only read one Stephen Graham Jones book, and I can't think of the name of it right now, but I liked it. I definitely need to read more of his stuff.

Never Let Me Go just pissed me off because it was so depressing.

Surreal horror is my favorite kind to read. Maybe not to watch though.

If you haven't already, check out The Changeling, by Victor LaValle. I haven't seen the TV version.

There are others, but off the top of my head, these are my favorite recent ones.

P. Djeli Clark - Ringshout
S.A. Cosby - Razorblade Tears
S.A. Cosby - All the Sinners Bleed
Nathan Harris - The Sweetness of Water
Sin Blache & Helen Macdonald - Prophet (a duo, one POC/one white)

(The first one to come to mind for me was The Fire Next Time by James Baldwin, but it came out in 1963.)
