I don't think it's unrealistic for a man and a woman who are close to stay friends rather than get together romantically.

At the same time, I am sad about the shift away from romance. I love romantic subplots, and I've really been missing them.

I also feel like there's a correlation between the ubiquity of porn and the death of romantic subplots (and I've been in conversations where people have explicitly said things along the lines of, "I don't want sex in movies. That's what porn is for"), and that makes me really, really uneasy. I think it was healthier for us to see sexual attraction as part of a larger narrative involving genuine human connection than it is for us to see it as disembodied and transactional. And that's not even getting into the fact that free porn sites are filled with films that have been uploaded without the consent of those in them, or that depict actual, real-life rape and abuse (and the CEO of the company behind PornHub has said that they don't care to really fix the issue, because it makes them money).

Sorry, this isn't really about Ezra and Sabine, just thoughts I've been having on the death of romantic subplots.
