I do understand where you're coming from but you probably should have phrased it differently. We've all come across something 34'd that makes up go "NOOO my CHILDHOOD!". I'm still traumatized over Smurf porn.

I am confused. What is it about slashing him that's worse than, say, shipping him with She-Hulk or whatever? If it were merely that you feel Cap shouldn't be in a sexual situation with anybody, I think I see why that might be weird for you, but why specifically slashing him?

You would be correct with that assumption. Cap and Iron Man is the majority of what I see when browsing through fandom. I can grudgingly deal with Cap and Sharon Carter since that's canon but basically, the thought of him in a sexual relationship bothers my inner child. But that's just me and the issues of my inner child, I suppose.

And, on a general note to those calling troll and otherwise, seeing how I'm bi myself, homophobia really isn't an issue here.

That might not be the intent behind it, but this is what was said: "I don't approve when this character is made gay with other men; I find it distasteful and wrong."

This happened because the OP apparently worded it poorly, but that doesn't change what was said. Wording it better would have made it not a homophobic statement.

OP said, specifically, I have a lot of slash ships. It's not their fault y'all chose to ignore that and cast the whole secret as being against slashing in general.

I dunno. I kinda liked him more when I found out what a close relationship he had with Tony, so slashing just seemed like the next step.

Of course, if you're talking about the sex part of the relationship, I can kinda understand, since, being your childhood hero and all, it would be like, say, imagining your parent's having sex, so I understand the squick there. But if its just the fact he could be shipped with Tony, as man, bugs you because you think simply being gay brings down one's character, you might want to review your way of thinking.

I ship Steve and Tony hard. And Steve and a lot of people, actually. And Tony and a lot of people, but that's got nothing to do with anything. And now that I'm a grown up, I find Captain America very, very attractive and realize that a lot of my attraction to guys comes off of how well they can live up to him (probably why I am 98% attracted to women).

That said? I always feel like I'm doing something bad whenever I read or look at any kind of smut with him in it. I just can't do it.

So I guess I kind of agree with you, OP, only... not exactly.
