Alanna I will give you. Daine not so much (her magic powers were simply a result of her birth, not a god-given gift, and she had to learn to use them, and even with her special powers it took all Tortall had to win the Immortals War). Kel? Kel I will fight you to the death on. Kel has no special powers, no spunky attitude, no rebellious princess syndrome. She just wants what she wants and works for it, like anyone would for something they desire that much. She has her detractors and supporters. I suppose you could say she was chosen by the Chamber of the Ordeal for her task in Lady Knight, but it didn't choose her because she was "special", it chose her because he knew she would be the one who took the task to heart and gave it her all, because that's what she does. She's also the only Pierce heroine to not become a major presence in the realm after her books. Alanna? Sure, but necessary to establish the verse. Daine? A little. Aly? In the beginning. Kel? Never.

Agreed. I look at the others and I go "... ahh, kind of" (especially Alanna). But Kel? Never. Never, ever.

As for the Circle of Magic books... none of them seemed Mary-Sue-ish to me.

Seeeeeeeeeeeriously. I just finished reading Kel's series because I think only First Test had been published when I got "too old" for it, and she is just the fucking BOMB. And everything she gets or that might make her "Sue-like" she works her ass off for, first.
