What is your perfect movie length?

(Anonymous) 2023-10-10 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
The new Killers of the Flower Moon is 3.5 hours. That is too long for me. I can do two hours at most without a break.

It quite honestly depends on the movie for me. The LOTR movies are perfect length for them, but that would be too long for most movies. I guess if a movie is good enough and engrossing enough that I get sucked into the world, a longer length works more.

Agreed. Some movies can and should be long. Other movies should not be.

+1

Some movies just make sense with a very long or short length. It's what works for that film. So there isn't a perfect length for all movies for me. The length can also absolutely be wrong for the film in question...

Depends on the movie. A horrible movie at 70 minutes is interminable.

100 minutes. A little longer than a tight 90, but keeping the whole experience of snacks/credits/previews/bathroom trips to under 2 hours.

Depends. Some movies enough at 1,5 hours, some need more time. But 2,5 is my limit, I am not watching anything longer

This isn’t set in stone for me but if a movie is longer than 100 minutes, I will get bored unless there is a narrative reason for going on longer. Or if there’s a lot of filler, at least make it interesting. Most movies I’ve seen that are longer than 100 minutes are only longer because of uninteresting filler.

Ninety minutes

90 minutes. I've been writing about movies for a local entertainment blog, and I love it, but I am also a busy adult lady, and what I've been doing lately is watching three 30-minute chunks for three days, and then I have 3-4 days to write my piece. It's a good system so far. Also, I have started watching SO MANY 2.5+ hour-long films, had to stop for some reason or another 30 minutes in, and then just never gone back to it. :P

Most of the time? 95 minutes. There are some movies that need more time than that to be told, but it's the exception, not the rule.

(And most of those 2+ hour stories would be better if they were written with a built-in intermission, but that's a different discussion.)
