I get that, I have the same thoughts on who I think would Dom/Sub in a ship regardless of who is getting fucked, but a lot of fandom defaults to dom=top sub=bottom and it's dull to say the least.

Like no sir that character is a dom AND a bottom thank you.

YEAH! I *love* a good Dom bottom/sub top but it is NOT easy to find. Especially because my current main fandom has such a good example of both. And I think there are things they could switch on in regards to both, they're not one of the ships where I *can't* read them switching things up, but like... it def feels like 'Dom who likes subbing when it's one special kink' and 'top who would try bottoming bc his partner gets so much out of it and he'd like to see how good it can be' more than 'vers switches', to me?

You know, I am just now realising that I do this by default... and thinking about how damn FUN it would be to write the Dominant character getting fucked, but still guiding how it goes... ooooh. Thank you!

Hmm, I think it depends on how omegas and alphas are written. If it's a fic where you have non typical abo characters I think you could write going both ways.

But if it's traditional abo, then yeah sometimes I too set characters as a specific type.

Can I ask why? What makes or breaks who is the alpha vs omega for you, OP?

Vibes. There is no rhyme or reason. Here are some that I only want to read as omega (I ship them with multiple people). I can't figure it a pattern.

Steve Rogers - omega
Jaskier- omega
Jason Todd - omega
John Watson - omega
Levi (snk) - omega
Castiel - omega

The only characters I know from this list are Jason Todd and Steve Rogers, and for what it's worth, you have excellent taste.

Agree on Steve. Castiel is an alpha, though (or at least a dom). And Dean is extremely subby to me, so I'd put him as omega.

What my thoughts are on top/bottom/side/etc vary by fandom, but I *always* have VERY set feelings about alpha and omega.

In the fandom that introduced me to A/B/O, I was down with the omega character bottoming, in and out of A/B/O 'verse fics. Current main fandom, the guy I exclusively read as the omega I actually do prefer as the top... but omegaverse is the one way I am happy to read him bottoming. I do just wish there was more top omega fic. Like... there's no reason he can't top (a strap-on can always be involved, depending on how you write omega guys' anatomy), would LOVE to see more omega-who-tops-outside-of-heat/ruts-and-alpha-who-LOVES-it.

i do have set preferences but honestly those preferences are out of pure spite for the popular fandom preferences. i get more creative fics, imo
