(Anonymous) 2023-10-11 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)Bad enough Kara's season 1 romance was deleted as soon as they moved over to CW--not because the actor left or anything, he was still right there, but, ostensibly, to not have Kara's focus be on romance. Sure. I can buy that--BUT NOT WHEN YOU THROW ANOTHER, WORSE MAN AT HER I M M E D I A T E L Y (but it's also toooootally not about that first love interest being black and the new one being white. What a coincidence!)
So we have this shithead here and suddenly it's the Kara Fixes Man-Hell Show! His arc is about becoming a hero! Her arc is about dragging him into it while he shouts at and insults her the entire time! So romantic!
Meanwhile Former Love Interest is actively trying to be a hero, and is being told "don't do that, you're just a human", next to Man-Hell being told "you HAVE to be a hero because you're SUPERhuman" which just looks like some weird fucking biological determinism imo--magical/super blood ONLY, thank you!
Yes I am still RAGING MAD about a show that went from blatantly, handholdingly girl power to watching a man actively make her cry repeatedly, while multiple characters including interdimensional beings tell her this dickwad is her true love. He goes away in the future, or whatever, but don't worry, when he comes back, it's so her feelings can be hurt because he's got a new chick. Precious. Fuck this guy.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-11 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)I have other bugbears with Supergirl that bother me more than Mon El, especially the implication of a lot of the politics, but I'm behind you 100%. Way to undermine the entire show and everything. I especially hated when she asked him to not tell people they're dating and then he IMMEDIATELY announces to the entire DEO that they're together. Kara should have broken up with him on the spot right there.
This is especially BEC but I also hated his dumb little wispy mustache facial hair. Maybe I'm just a lesbian, but man, that is just so ugly and unattractive to me. Men think it makes them look good but it does NOT.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-12 12:58 am (UTC)(link)Now Chris Wood is hot to me. I loved him as Kai on The Vampire Diaries. His evil, evil sexy "Let's kill each other" chemistry with Kat Graham did things to me.
Then Chris becomes Mon-El over on Supergirl, and I thought: "Yay! He's going to bring some of that crazy-cute Kai energy to Supergirl!"
Nah.
All Chris's charm and, frankly, acting talent evaporated the second he walked onto the Supergirl set, and he had zero chemistry with Melissa Benoist. Which to be fair, Benoist only had het chemistry with Grant Gustin, but come on! Chris and Melissa hooked up in real life! Like. How do they not have any heat between them onscreen, yet be making babies behind the scenes?
And to top it all off, Mon-El was an ass. Not even a likable ass. Just a plain, flat ass, and I was glad when he flitted off to the future and resented it when he came back.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-12 01:05 am (UTC)(link)I've noticed this with like, Tom Holland and Zendaya in the MCU Spiderman movies. I think a lot of actors are really bad at maintaining sexual tension and chemistry on screen with someone they're actually fucking. They probably just don't try to act like they've got chemistry, because hey! They're already boinking! Shouldn't that be enough? It's not enough. They need to do their job and actually act, instead of relying on the knowledge of their irl hookup to do the heavy lifting for them

i saw literally NO ONE like this man, from the jump! from his first appearance! I'm glad melissa had someone she trusted on set i imagine that was pretty important for her but i don't think you had to do this with him!
