I swear so many of the people saying "cringe culture is dead" are quietly adding "except when I'm the one cringing, of course" and not even considering whether maybe that's missing the entire point.

Meanwhile, I was under the impression that embracing cringe is what's popular these days.

I've been around self-ships for a while and, ugh, the loudest of them are like this, and whiny, and every negative trait that can come to fandom. Which sucks, because otherwise, self-ship can be fu., I just keep to myself now.

Sometimes we all really need to take a step back and remember that our fandom hobbies are all quite silly and "cringe" at the end of the day to people outside of those hobbies. We are all obsessing over our favorite things and showing that love in weird, sometimes awkward ways. That doesn't make it bad, it's awesome that we are having our harmless fun, and we of all people should be the first to scroll past posts that annoy us or simply block and move on, though I know that sadly often isn't the reality of fandoms. Judging someone for self insert with the "wrong" character while being into self insert with the "right" character is beyond ridiculous.
