That sucks that that happened to you :(

But I’ll be honest, I don’t think it’s FS’s fault that you ended up at a crap viewing. But it also wasn’t clear to me from your secret that you were asking how to find fan-organized viewings. You could have googled for that *shrug* your attitude of “I had a bad time and it’s the fault of those who encouraged me to go” speaks volumes.

I’m also a little dubious about the Gen Xers there to heckle the Swifties. I just cannot picture anyone in the mid 40s to mid 60s going to the movie theater and paying money just to harass the viewers. That is young people behavior and it’s highly unlikely that even the youngest Gen Xers have done that in this millennium.

Dunno. After learning the demographics of those who got arrested for criminal activity on January 6, I try not to make assumptions about Gen X behavior (as that cohort made up the bulk of arrests: see https://www.wbur.org/hereandnow/2022/01/03/jan-6-rioters-white-older).

…that’s pretty much the age you’d expect of people doing that though? The first generation on the internet and the last generation to experience degree remuneration, many of whom are easy targets for conspiracy theories fuelled by straw man arguments about healthcare, immigration, and student loans.

But going to a movie theater to laugh at people who wanted to see what’s playing? That’s late teens and MAYBE early 20s mentality.

Honestly, given the choice between the choice, I'd rather current Gen Xers laugh at people who want to see whatever's on the screen over vandalizing the nation's capital.

(Also, the article discusses that said vandalism has historically been the domain of extremists, when tend to run a decade younger.)

I don't know many GenXers, but about half of the ones I do know are massive assholes who would totally see that as a good time. It's not the generation, it's the person.

I actually think most of the generation are assholes but they’re more the cut you off in traffic or be a dick in the supermarket kinda asshole, not the go out of their way to pick on much younger people just because of musical tastes.

Kinda agree. The fandom is active on every platform and loads of towns and cities have had planned groups meeting up for showings. I’ve seen several posted in my town’s Facebook group and the subreddit about our town.
