Certain viewpoints in certain places and times and situations are under-explored and therefor more interesting to some people.
I haven't watched IWAV but Vampire = leech on society that feeds on humans considered lesser = nobility = slave owner *tracks* and a black and/or mixed race slave owner feels like it could have thematic ties to a young vampire with a lot of qualms about the vampire lifestyle (deathstyle?). Also very New Orleans. Stay different NOLA.
